ABOUT US
OUR HISTORY
English 4U was born from the dreams and deepest aspirations of Hispanics who, upon arriving in Houston, face a reality that is as challenging as it is hopeful: the beginning of a new life in a country full of opportunities, but where English is the key that can either open or close doors.
Learning it quickly becomes not a luxury, but a vital necessity for navigating daily life — from handling basic paperwork, attending a medical appointment, or helping children with their homework, to applying for a better job or even starting a business.
English 4U was founded in 2015 as a community initiative to provide affordable English classes. From the very beginning, the project focused on serving those who needed it most, creating a welcoming space where learning English could become a real opportunity for transformation. Over the years, we have grown and worked hand in hand with families, local businesses, and nonprofit organizations, building support networks that have allowed thousands of people to approach English with both confidence and hope.
Our story took a new step forward in South Houston, in the Sharpstown neighborhood — a vibrant and diverse community where cultures, languages, and dreams come together. Sharpstown breathes effort, hope, and solidarity. It was there, in 2020, that English 4U opened its first formal center. The space was modest and resources were limited, but the vision was clear: to create a place where learning English was not distant or unattainable, but close, human, and possible.
That pioneering center quickly became more than a classroom. It became a refuge, a gathering place, a space where people could share their stories, support one another, and realize they were not alone in their journey of adaptation and integration. Soon, the hallways of English 4U were filled with voices practicing their first English phrases, with smiles of triumph after conquering the fear of speaking, and with tears of joy upon realizing that progress, step by step, was indeed possible.
As time went on, English 4U grew alongside its community. What began as a dream in Sharpstown expanded to other corners of Houston, becoming a network of 12 active centers. Each one carries the same spirit: to teach English as a tool for transformation, while also walking alongside students with warmth, empathy, and respect as they strive to integrate and thrive in their new environment.
At English 4U, we believe wholeheartedly that English is not just a language: it is a bridge to education, to economic stability, and to full participation in social and civic life. It is the language that opens the doors of universities to our students’ children, that gives our learners access to better job opportunities, and above all, that grants them the confidence to communicate and to be heard.
Today, English 4U is much more than a language center. It is a living testimony to the strength and resilience of Latino immigrants in Houston. It is proof that, with collective effort, solidarity, and a clear vision, dreams can indeed become reality. And most importantly, it is a reminder that every person, regardless of their origin, carries within them the ability to learn, to grow, and to transform their future.
